The Twechar healthy living and enterprise centre is a fantastic community hub of good deeds run by Sandra Sutton. I met Sandra at a workshop held by Angela Trainer from the Harvest Clinic in Glasgow.

The centre is involved in many aspects of village life from hosting the local footballs to pensioner clubs right through to offering food and furniture bank services. They even have a morning and afternoon breakfast and after school club for £3 a day available to residences of the village. The centre is full of practical solutions to sometimes challenging local issues. They have an onsite chemist, a doctor who runs a surgery from the centre once a week as well as the citizens advice clinic each week.

All local communities should have a centre like this run by local people for the local people. Its an excellent example of how a community centre should be ran.

It was a pleasure to be asked to volunteer my time to work with the community teaching stress management and meditative techniques over a two hour period. We covered the basics of the stress response right through to deep abdominal breathing and self induced relaxation using a body scan process.
